Hearing Instrument Styles

Receiver-In-Canal (RIC)

These hearing instruments consist of two parts. First is the apparatus that sits behind the ear. This housing is much smaller than BTE hearing instruments. A variety of choices are available to match hair or skin tones. Second is the receiver. This piece sits inside the ear canal and is attached to the housing via a thin, discreet wire. People who wear RICs say they are very comfortable and provide the most natural hearing assistance.

Behind-The-Ear (BTE)

This type of hearing instrument is used for power applications. They are made for individuals who have a severe or even profound hearing loss. A small plastic tub is connected to the earhook. This tube then connects to an earmold which is custom made in our office.

In-The-Ear (ITE)

This style of hearing instrument is a great option for individuals who do not want any part of their hearing instrument to sit behind the ear. The ITE is worn exclusively inside the ear but it is visible to others. The housing is custom made in our office ensuring a perfect fit.

In-The-Canal (ITC)

This hearing instrument is similar to the ITE. It is also custom made. The main difference is that it is smaller in size.

Completely-In-Canal (CIC)

This hearing instrument is similar to the ITC. It is also custom made. The main difference is that it is smaller in size, therefore, it is more discreet.

Invisible-In-Canal (IIC)

These hearing instruments are even smaller than the CICs. These are the most discreet and nearly invisible when worn. They are custom made to fit your ear canal.

Telecoil

A telecoil, also called a t-coil, is an additional circuit built into a hearing instrument at the time of manufacture. It works as a receiver that picks up signals from a loop system. Public venues such as movie theaters, live theaters, houses of worship, and rec centers, among others, may have a loop system installed. If so, when the telecoil in the hearing aid is activated, it turns incoming FM signals into sound in your ears giving you great understanding no matter where you sit.
